DAILY BRIEF · JULY 3, 2026

The Decks Clear, the Science Begins

A fourteen-agent cleanup sprint cleared the website, the org, and the wikis, then a six-lane recon rebuilt the PhD master plan and promoted the error-floor investigation to the project’s first real science task.

Major Developments

The day opened with a fourteen-agent sprint that cleared three fronts at once: the website (front page and navigation wired, the Jun 21-23 reports recovered and published live), organization (intake templates plus an auto-archiving board sweep), and the research wiki (lint driven from 137 open issues down to zero). Running alongside it, an assimilate-clean-review pass shipped five commits, the largest being a ten-agent, 742k-token workflow that verified three edits to the GNC math source (current_sota.md) and confirmed the SymPy coupling correction survives an adversarial pass.

The bigger turn was the pivot to science. A six-lane recon (staleness, guidance, CVaR research, uncertainty) rebuilt the PhD master plan: the reactive state machine was retired in favor of a deterministic end effector, five phase stubs (0, A, B, C, D-E) plus long-form math were written, and three GNC thesis-path fixes landed. The error-floor investigation was promoted to the SCIENCE priority, and its long-standing duration-mismatch anomaly was resolved (derate, corridor scale rs 0.40). The old handoff skill was refactored into the pass/take-the-torch pair, and Fable-proofing tasks T1-T2 shipped as provenance.py and terminology.py.

Tried and Failed

The low point was a Quartz plugin-CLI incident: a git-reset redirect wiped 47 files, every one of which was recovered from working history before the graft closed. An eight-agent audit then refuted two ONGOING tasks that had been ticked done but weren’t, and a peer agent’s broad commit nearly clobbered staged work before it was caught pre-push. The master plan.md remains blocked.

Lessons Learned

The two false done-ticks sharpened the verify-before-tick rule: a checked box is a claim, not a fact, and it earns its tick only against the source. The git-reset scare hardened into a guardrail rather than a scolding, with a Hookify ban plus push-after-commit prevention now backstopping the honest lapse. The day also formalized the USER ONLY protocol, drawing a clean line between what an agent may run and what needs the user’s own hands.

Questions and Ambiguities

The error-floor investigation still carries roughly a dozen open threads across duration, spikes, the true floor, and singularities, and whether the operational pointing-error floor is architectural or a genuine lever remains the central open question. The later PhD phases cannot be specified until an uncertainty assessment lands. Fable-proofing tasks T3-T8 are pending, with T3 waiting on a registry design.

Next steps

  • Validate and commit the GNC slice from the assimilate-clean-review pass.
  • Push the error-floor investigation on the full helix (short gates mislead).
  • Land the uncertainty assessment, then specify the later PhD phases and unblock plan.md.
  • Continue Fable-proofing T3-T8, starting with the T3 registry design.

By the numbers — a 14-agent sprint plus a 10-agent GNC verification workflow (742k tokens); at least 17 commits across three named sub-sprints (5 assimilate-clean-review, 8 board-clear audit, 4 SSH and notes); research-wiki lint driven 137 to 0; 47 files recovered. The session dashboard does not yet reach this day — its range ends 2026-07-02 (~$3,860 cumulative across 109 sessions), so no per-day cost estimate exists for July 3.
